Go for a dragon glaive, as many end game monsters will be elder dragons, or monsters that are weak to dragon in some way. Bone is higher attack or sonething (or maybe element, could be wrong), and iron/steel has better sharpness (which is a godsend), you want all elements if possible, I also heard for just raw power and no element, the nergigante glaive is best. You'll want dragon first, cause most end monsters are weak to it, so I'd dedicate time and money into that first (I'm loving my xeno glaive atm, a black steel tree, with dragon power, elderseal, and sharpness up to silver (one above blue)makes a huge difference.)Then maybe thunder and then fire, I don't pay attention to blast cause I have a blast kinsect. Remember, your glaive, unlike all other weapons, can harness two separate elements at once, also remember that every time your kinsect hits the monster, it deals damage, that works whether you're shooting it out to get buffs, or pressing R2 to mark him.
Honestly what I do and it may take some time but make a bunch of different elemental versions. I usually switch on the fly depending on the monster’s weakness that I am hunting at the time.It allows you to exploit any and all advantages. I may be on a great hunt investigation to kill a black and regular diablos so I start with my Ice glaive but then have to kill a Jyuratados so i’ll fast travel to camp real fast and grab a lightning glaive. The minute I take to swap out weapons is worth it since i’ll be dishing out more damage which in the end would be saving me time. For a while there, I went down the odogaron route towards Vice, and was on Temptation's Trident. It was serving me pretty well, with nothing I could complain about.
Though that being said, I mostly went with that one for the way it looks, and it was just going to be a side one until I could get my current one. Still, it served me well, and dealt pretty good damage, though with the downside of losing sharpness quickly.

That 20% affinity on it helped a lot though, and with as many attacks as you deal with the glaive, I saw plenty of cirts. The final upgrade to it, Vice, is also one of only two IG to have white level sharpness, and it has a fairly hefty amount.I'm currently using Daora's Entom, which is an ice glaive you can make after you can kill Kushala Daora.
Thought it looked cool from the thumbnails I could see of it, and it has good stats. Found out it was actually a squid, so I'm not so sure on the cool look anymore, but gameplay wise I'm loving it. It has a small blue level sharpness, but the green sharpness lasts quite a while. Have only done a couple of hunts so far with it, but damage wise it's a pretty hefty amount, (by glaive standards), has 10% affinity, and I've yet to have a fight where I dropped down to yellow sharpness before the monster would flee to their next zone. That being said, there are better glaives for raw damage. It has one more upgrade that I haven't progressed far enough to get yet, and said upgrade does actually do a lot for the blue sharpness level.
I suspect it'll be one of the glaives that has the longest lasting power, though there are a couple that will be better in that regard. If you're wanting raw damage though, then going for the nergigante glaive is going to be your best bet. It has the a long blue level, high damage, and dragon element which is generally the most effective against endgame monsters.
That being said, it only has a level one gem slot, and its sharpness below the blue level is rather small. If you want durability over a long fight, then the Kirin glaive path is going to be your best option, as while it has lower physical damage, it does have strong elemental damage. It also boasts the longest blue and green levels out of any glaive. The trade off though is that it's lightning element, which isn't one of the more effective ones, and it has no decoration slots. Then of course, there's probably the best 'all around' glaive, the Xeno one. High damage, the other glaive after Vice that has a white sharpness, two level three gem slots, dragon element, and 15% affinity. The only real downside to it is that its ability is stamina boost, which if you're good at managing your kinsect, is pretty useless. If you're the type who just throws it out and leaves it, then it's a good ability to have.
There's not really much else of a downside aside from its relatively lower elemental damage compared to other elemental endgame glaives. As for my kinsect, I'm currently running the Bullshroud III kinsect, modified with dragon damage. Low power but good healing capabilities, high speed, and the blunt damage type on it has allowed me to stun more than a few monsters. The high speed on it in particular makes it pretty quick for me to get extracts from monsters, or harass them from a distance with repeated attacks.
If you're wanting one that does more damage, I'd recommend either the Carnage Beetle III, (Poison dust, blunt damage, 12 power, 11 speed, 4 healing, Mauldrone Lineage), or the Pseudocath III, (blast dust, sever damage, 11 power, 15 speed, 3 healing, Pseudocath Lineage). It's down to personal preference, of course, and if you want one that trades in the speed for higher power or healing, there are options. Out of all the weapon styles, IG has the most flexibility when it comes to damage types, due to the ability to have kinsects and glaives with seperate damage types.
Monsters are found in the Mines, the Skull Cavern, the Quarry Mine, and the Mutant Bug Lair. Monsters may also be found on The Farm by choosing the wilderness map or on any map by offering a Strange Bun to the Dark Shrine of Night Terrors in the Witch's Hut.
Monster difficulty on the Farm scales with the player's Combat level (at higher levels, more difficult monsters spawn, and the Wilderness Golem becomes more difficult to kill).
When killed, Monsters have a chance to drop Monster Loot.
